Westchester County Expands Free Ev Charging To Support Sustainability Goals
Published: 07 February 2025
Westchester County has installed 25 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the County Center’s South Parking Lot, providing free charging for up to 50 electric vehicles at a time...
That web page above has a link to an 18 minute announcement event:

It's the new county executive and five others in self congratulation acting like cats licking themselves, oblivious that the EV charging stations have not been activated. I left this comment:
Today I walked to these EV charging stations and after they have been there for months they still do not appear to be activated. Nor is there any signage on the road or nearby that would alert drivers about their existence. The concrete steps to exit the parking area are closed at the top. There were no cars there getting charged. NONE. I just sent my fourth email in 2025 to the new county executive asking about this and I have received only the auto reply. Do any of these people on the podium know any of this?

As of yesterday March 6 at noon:
- no signage on the road or nearby that would alert drivers
- concrete steps to exit the parking area still closed at the top
- two cars charging; two of a possible 50
"Charging output restricted to 6 A due to power sharing between charging stations."
Flo replied:
... usually means that the charging station is sharing power between multiple vehicles. As a result, the output is limited to ensure that all connected vehicles receive a portion of the available power...
Thank you again for bringing this to our attention

I counted 32 people on the staff of the County Executive. Maybe that's part of the problem.

Thank you so much for keeping an eye the charging situation in the County, we appreciate your diligence.
The EV Chargers in the Commuter Lot at the County Center were operational before our press conference and have been operating ever since. We can check on their operability in real time via a Flo dashboard given to us. You can also see their operability via the Flo app. Just to make triply sure they are operating I just drove over there and plugged in my own car and it worked just fine. There was a gate/barrier that was put at the top of the stairs there by the City of White Plains and has now of course been removed.
As to signage we are working on that but as you know, there are many apps that we EV drivers use to find and use chargers and these Flo chargers are on at least Flo's app, PlugShare, which is what I use.
They are Level 2 chargers so therefore somewhat slow but the idea is that these will be great for those commuting down to NYC or are going to be in the County Center for 2-3 hours or perhaps a 2-3 hour bike or stroll along the Bronx River. We are installing a couple of DC Fast Chargers there at the County Center but those take a while to install because of the large capacity of electricity needed.
Again I thank for driving an EV, since 2018 our air quality here in Westchester County has gotten tremendously better, we used to fail EPA Air Quality standards every year until we started converting our vehicles to electricity (BeeLine, fleet, businesses, and residents). The pandemic helped but it was on a sharp incline before and continues up to now. We currently now are passing the threshold (not failing) and have been for the past 4 years. Thank you.
Peter, thanks for your comment. In my first post in this series:
Electric Vehicle charging stations: Westchester County promotes them before activation. What the heck? Friday, February 14, 2025, I wrote:
"Today, I went there on foot and used the app from the company Flo to try to make contact and that failed. I called Flo and was informed that it does not activate its Electric Vehicle charging stations but the organization hosting them (Westchester County) does it.
Westchester County did the same thing at the North White Plains train station surface parking lot, which is administered by the county (Who knew?). When I got my Electric Vehicle in February, 2024 I tried the eight Flo charging stations there and learned that they had not been activated. Months passed before they were."

subject: EV charging station stats
I have an account with Flo and I have been charging my EV at the county EV charging stations at the North White Plains train station. I get stats like these:
Start date Charging station name Duration Energy transferred (Wh) Total cost
2025-01-18 11:04:45 AUB-19491 1:14:46 5765 0.00
2025-02-01 11:34:08 AUB-19491 1:46:25 10454 0.00
The county must get stats like this but I cannot find them on the county website. I am particularly interested in summary stats for North White Plains Parking Lot-Fisher Lane and, of course, the 50 new EV charging stations near the White Plains train station, south of the county center (County Center’s South Parking Lot).
Thanks.
